AGD Bank cares to grow.

AGD BANK DONATES FUNDS AND AID TO ORPHANAGE CHARITY, TO MARK NEW GROW CAMPAIGN

August 4, 2022

Asia Green Development Bank (AGD Bank), Myanmar’s leading public and commercial bank, has donated a significant amount of money and a breadth of valuable resources to the Myo Set Thit Miba Myittar Monastery Orphanage Charity in Yangon.

AGD Bank’s donation is the first part of the bank's new ‘GROW’ campaign just launched across Myanmar, to mark the 12th anniversary of AGD Bank. AGD has launched ‘GROW’ as a new community campaign that will see a range of projects be implemented to improve water facilities, tree planting, environmental issues, and infrastructure across Myanmar. The bank will also be investing into selected local community projects across Myanmar.

The significant donation from AGD Bank included purified drinking water machines (water purifiers and distillers) so that the orphanage can have access to safe clean water consistently. Alongside this, AGD also donated a substantial amount of food (including vital rice), children’s snacks, cooking oil, infant products (including diapers and milk powder), and clothes to the orphanage.

The orphanage was founded in 2018 by Ashin Dhamma Nanda to care for children in Yangon without parents or guardians. Originally the monastery only had one child in its care, however today as a full-fledged orphanage it cares for 138 children.

“AGD Bank is the bank that grows with you. With GROW, we are investing into key pillars of society that will help communities in Myanmar to always grow more positively into the future. We are investing into the children of today (the orphanage), so that those children can grow up to prosper and create a greater future for themselves. We are investing into purified drinking water, as without access to clean water no human can grow properly and remain healthy. And with tree planting initiatives, we are giving communities in Myanmar the awareness of how important it is to grow plants and trees, to improve the ecology and environment” said U Wai Lin Oo, Managing Director of AGD Bank.

To mark the donation, senior staff from AGD Bank, including AGD Deputy Managing Director U Wai Lin Oo hosted a celebration event at the orphanage monastery in Yangon on the 16th of July. AGD Bank hosted a catered lunch for all of the monks, children, and other guests at the event, alongside playing a series of games and running activities to spend time with the children. The bank also planted multiple trees at the monastery to improve the garden premises.
